Where Does Potion Glitter Actually Go?

Think about how children use a potion kit.

They pour water into a bowl or cauldron.

They sprinkle in magical ingredients.

Then, once the magic is complete, almost every family does the same thing.

They empty the potion.

Usually into the sink.

The Problem With Some "Biodegradable" Glitters

Today, many glitters are marketed as biodegradable simply because they're made from PLA, a plastic produced from renewable crops like corn starch.

That sounds fantastic.

Until you look a little deeper.

Many PLA materials are designed to break down under industrial composting conditions, where temperatures can exceed 60°C and moisture, oxygen and microbial activity are carefully controlled.

Those specialised facilities are very different from household drains, rivers, lakes and home compost bins.

So while a material may technically be compostable, that doesn't necessarily mean it will readily biodegrade once washed into everyday environments.

For products that are intended to be washed away with water, that's an important distinction.

Why We Chose BioGlitter®

When we developed our potion kits, we knew glitter wouldn't stay on a child's face or in a craft box.

It would become part of water.

For potion kits, the reality is simple.

The glitter is almost always washed away.

So we wanted to choose an option that reflected that reality.

One family won't change the world overnight.

But when thousands of families are creating magical potions every year, those small choices begin to matter.

As manufacturers, we have a responsibility to think beyond what looks magical in the bowl.
